Our Young Artists programme of workshops is designed to allow young people space to develop creative skills in a fun, supportive and experimental environment, as well as establishing a professional approach to producing work for exhibition. Studio 106 Art Gallery aims to provide a platform for young artists at an early stage in their creative development.  We are dedicated to creating opportunities at an age at which strengthening confidence and establishing support is a crucial part of the future.

New Creative Workshop for Young People - Animation with Mai Yoshida - June 17, 2011

NEW CREATIVE WORKSHOP FOR YOUNG PEOPLE - ANIMATION WITH MAI YOSHIDA

Accomplished artist Mai Yoshida will introduce children to the wonderful world of Animation. Students will develop 2D and 3D artworks which complement a story of their imagining and from this, create animation.

As part programme, students will be guided to stage a group performance and film screening.

Breathless...In Action - A Special Workshop for Young People - May 14, 2011

BREATHLESS...IN ACTION - A SPECIAL WORKSHOP FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

Studio 106 Art Gallery is delighted to announce a special one-off workshop for young people ages 7-11 that will be set in the context of our current exhibition – Breathless.

 

Benjamin Senior, a young and up and coming artist who graduated from the RCA in 2010, will guide children though his exhibition and teach them how to mix paints and create their own artworks using the specialist technique of egg tempera, which has been used by everyone from the Ancient Egyptians to the pre-Raphaelites and contemporary British artists such as Benjamin!

INVESTIGATE ART FOR 9-13 YRS

Taking Darwin’s Theory of Evolution as its thematic starting point, this course offers young students the chance to develop drawing, painting, sculpture, installation and collage through exploration and experimentation with materials and forms. Students will be introduced to beginner ideas about history and theory of art that are relevant to the projects set. As well as developing observational and technical skills, all students will be encouraged to take an imaginative, playful and original approach to their work.

 

Fashion, Textiles and Collage for 9-18 yrs

FASHION, TEXTILES AND COLLAGE FOR 9-18 YRS

Introducing basic ideas about textural processes, collage techniques and garment construction, this course provides the opportunity to develop skills relevant to art, fashion and design. You will be encouraged to develop an exciting sketchbook of ideas and material investigation, exploring techniques such as layering, bonding, ruching, appliquéing, folding, plaiting and coating surfaces. We will look at traditional and modern textile works from a variety of different cultures for inspiration, leading to consideration of colour, print and texture to generate finished work

 

Graphics, Digital Photography and Screen Printing

GRAPHICS, DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND SCREEN PRINTING

Designed to introduce and develop graphic design and photography skills, this course will cover typography, layout, illustration and storyboarding, encouraging creative thinking in a lively and supportive atmosphere.  Students should own a digital camera, which will be used to generate images for use in a diverse range of projects, exploring ideas about composition, contrast, colour and scale. Photographs and found images will be further developed into storyboards, posters and silk screen prints on paper and fabric.

 

Preparation for Art in Further and Higher Education

PREPARATION FOR ART IN FURTHER AND HIGHER EDUCATION

This course is aimed at students who are considering pursuing studies in creative disciplines at Further and Higher Education levels. Taught by tutors with significant experience teaching in Art Schools, it will help you to develop a range of important practical and conceptual skills. Tailored to suit each student, the course consists of a variety of projects designed to generate high quality work for students’ portfolios, including working from a model, still life set-up, using multi media and a wide range of both two and three-dimensional materials.
